Meet sweet-toothed Peggy Griffiths, who puts the success of her old age down to her chocolate addiction!
SWEET-toothed Peggy Griffiths, who has eaten 30 family-sized bars of chocolate a week, has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Her daughter said: “Her passion is Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. All her life she has eaten vast quantities of it. “In the last 10 years she has eaten her way through 30 bars per week. She is a real chocoholic.
Peggy’s sweet tooth began at an early age. She recalled: “When I was young I could go into a shop and buy a bar of chocolate with my pocket money.” In those days it cost just tuppence and Peggy said it tasted the same then as it does now.
Staff at Heron’s Lea Residential Home at Abbotsham where she has lived for nearly eight years laid on a party for her 100th birthday… and there were no prizes for guessing the flavour of the cake – chocolate!
Peggy was born in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales, on March 4 1909.
After her marriage to Arthur Griffiths in 1932 she bought a sweet shop in Cardiff. But it had to close after two years because Peggy kept eating all the profits.
