As was common in the 1920’s, winning race pigeons were often rewarded with a portrait.

This pigeon, named “The Gem”, was painted by EH Windred for pigeon fancier CJ Stagg. Gem was the ‘Flown Marennes & Dam’ champion.

What a bird.
